How do you make a fashion-conscious child wear fluorescent clothing to 'be safe be seen'? I set up BrightKidz as a social enterprise (not-for-profit business) to promote walk to school schemes and high visibility (fluorescent, reflective) clothing that children want to wear. We started to develop our BrightKidz range of cool, funky high visibility clothing and accessories for kids in 2004. (Star product is our funky PINK BrightKidz waistcoat!) BrightSportz, our adult range and our Bright Basics budget range followed. Our walk-to-school promotional products range was the next 'baby'... reflectors, stickers etc for the Walking Bus, Park & Stride, other walking schemes and cycling. Now there are 10 of us and about 200 products! We do workshops and our campaign work is funded by income from sales. If kids wear high vis and walk to school regularly they are more visible to traffic and safer. They also have more fun and get more 'Street Sense' because they're no longer cocooned in a car. We want more kids to get out and enjoy safely walking to and from school. So our message is 'Be bright and get walking'....oh and buy our stuff because it's brilliant (literally)!
